NICU Feeding Champions: Live IDF Course Coming to California

There are many steps from the inception of an idea to the full implementation of it. You know this all too well if you’ve been trying to advance oral feeding practice in your NICU for months or even years.

While the ultimate goal is unit-wide adoption and integration of new evidence and practice to improve feeding experiences and outcomes, knowing where to begin can be daunting. As we often say during Strategy Calls with you, first we recommend building a team of champions, with representation from all shifts and disciplines. Reaching that ultimate goal requires a team effort and layers of collaboration.

To that end, we’d like to share the following resources with you. We (IDF authors and Co-Founders) are scheduled to speak live in 2 separate California venues in June of 2018. It’s a rare occasion for us to speak about this topic in person. However, we know for sure that it’s a fabulous way to train your feeding champions before the rest of the unit takes the Online IDF Course.

We’re excited for the opportunity to meet many of you there, learn about your current needs and obstacles, and spend a day immersed in content that is 100% relevant to your everyday practice in the NICU. We learn more every time we connect with you.

After attending this conference, participants will be better able to:

  • Verbalize understanding of the impact of early sensory motor experience on later feeding and nutritional outcomes.
  • Identify the benefits of the Infant-Driven Feeding versus traditional and cue-based feeding practices.
  • Explain the hands on clinical practices for orally feeding infants proper nutrition in the NICU.
  • Describe how to implement the practice of infant-driven feeding in the NICU.
